Races of Ilthalor

Races of Ilthalor

Hierarchy

Quote
Elves

Position: Supreme

Viewed as: The chosen of Elaru’neth, natural rulers, refined and eternal.

Reality: Noble houses rule the court, and only purebloods may hold sacred titles, own ancestral land, or speak directly in moonlit rites. Their perceived grace is both armor and weapon, and many hide cruelty behind “dignity.”

Drow

Position: Respected

Viewed as: Dangerous allies, politically useful, spiritually unclean.

Reality: Though culturally disdained, drow from Vhalzryn have earned grudging respect through military alliance and raw power. Elves fear them, but rarely insult them to their faces — Lytha Dyrr ensures that.

Halflings

Position: Liked

Viewed as: Harmless, entertaining, domestically gifted.

Reality: Halflings are seen as "too cute to threaten," often relegated to kitchens, gardens, and servant roles. Their cheer masks their low status, but most are treated with condescending affection rather than cruelty.

Humans

Position: Disliked

Viewed as: Crude, impulsive, spiritually shallow, physically short-lived.

Reality: Humans are too numerous to ignore, and their influence is growing — through trade, diplomacy, and forbidden romance. Elves see them as defilers of culture and tradition, but their adaptability is hard to suppress.

Other Races (Tieflings, Orcs, Beastfolk, etc.)

Position: Varied

Viewed as: Intriguing, exotic, threatening, or grotesque.

Reality: Some are allowed into lower Ilthalor society if they serve a purpose (trade, entertainment, rare magic), but most are carefully watched, spoken down to, and denied any real political standing.

Half-Elves

Position: Lowest

Viewed as: Impure, unnatural, spiritual mistakes.

Reality: Hated by both their parent lineages, half-elves are seen as a living shame — the result of defilement, lust, or broken discipline. They receive no surnames, cannot own land, speak in temple courts, or join noble houses. They are often kept as servants, pets, or gladiators, and even kind nobles hesitate to speak their names in formal settings. To the elven elite, a half-elf is neither moon-touched nor mortal — just wrong.
